Successful Launch of ArtsFest 2013

Artsfest 2013 got off to an amazing start Friday night with its busiest Opening Reception in the event’s 11-year history. For two hours the Town Mill and its galleries were crowded with locals and out-of-towners enjoying the camaraderie and hospitality as well as the art on show, music from B Sharp buskers, literary readings from a Regency-costumed Elizabeth Richie and a live entertainment link with performers in Kathmandu. Mayor Sally Holman opened the Festival and offered a special welcome to the official delegates from Barfleur, Normandy, in Lyme to complete the formalities of Twinning the following day.

Over the weekend, B Sharp continued to keep Lyme humming with their Beside the Seaside Busking Festival, the perfect backdrop to the various ArtsFest workshops and events happening all Drawing for funover town. The art exhibitions at the Baptist Church Hall, the Malthouse and the Courtyard Gallery saw visitor numbers surpass previous years, with many echoing the sentiments of one visitor: ‘Haven’t seen such brilliant work outside of London before.’

ArtsFest continues until Sunday 29 September and details about all the events can be found in the free ArtsFest brochure available in most shops and TICs or on the website:
